Win for former Captain at the Out for Sport Awards

We are delighted that former captain Jamie Johnstone was awarded the Club Spirit award at this year’s Out for Sport awards. This award honours “an unsung hero who embodies their club’s values, making a significant impact through leadership, support, and dedication.”

Jamie’s citation reads:

Joining the club in 2021 with no prior rowing experience, Jamie has quickly risen to become Club Captain, overseeing training, coaching, racing, and logistics. His efforts have been instrumental in growing the club to over 250 members while fostering a positive, inclusive atmosphere. Whether managing regattas or handling last-minute challenges, Jamie approaches everything with calm, kindness, and a great sense of humour. He’s a role model, a unifier, and truly the heartbeat of the Otters.

Our head coach Allie Loweth was shortlisted for the Newcomer of the Year award, as “a newcomer who has quickly become invaluable, demonstrating dedication, enthusiasm, and a positive impact on their club.”

We are immensely proud of both Jamie and Allie, and would like to thank Out for Sport for their recognition. It was perhaps appropriate that neither nominee could attend the awards ceremony because they were still in France at the club’s first international training camp, made possible in large part by their contributions. However, our chair Alex Jones attended and accepted Jamie’s award on behalf of the club.
